How to pick the best AI girlfriend for you

Most "best AI girlfriend" lists are written by one of the apps on the list, and that app is usually number one. We run one of these sites too, so we are not going to rank anyone. Instead, this guide explains what actually differs between AI girlfriend apps, so you can work out which one is best for what you want. Facts about other services come from their own public websites, checked on October 14, 2026.
The short version
- If you want pictures, voice or video, you need one of the large platforms. Candy AI describes itself as an AI girlfriend app with pics, voice and video, and ourdream.ai advertises image and video generation.
- If you want to design your own girlfriend, look for a character creator. Candy AI and ourdream.ai both have one; ourdream.ai lets you choose appearance, personality, voice and backstory.
- If long-term memory matters most, Nomi advertises short, medium and long-term memory, and Replika says it remembers the people and routines you tell it about.
- If you want a phone app, Replika has iOS and Android apps.
- If you just want to text a flirty, adults-only character right now, free, without making an account, that is the narrow thing we built. You get 20 messages a day with no signup and no card.
Eight things that actually separate AI girlfriend apps
1. How "free" the free tier really is
"Free" covers three very different things: a free account that gives you a few messages before a paywall, a one-time trial, or a daily allowance that comes back. Check whether you need an email before the first message and whether the free messages reset. A tier that resets daily lets you judge a character over a week instead of five minutes. Our free tier page spells out exactly what we give away.
2. Whether the advertised price is monthly
The lowest numbers on pricing pages are often a yearly plan shown as a monthly equivalent. On the day we checked, Candy AI showed $13.99 a month (first month $9.99) alongside a 12-month plan shown as $3.99 a month, and ourdream.ai advertised $9.99 a month on a yearly plan billed upfront. Neither is wrong, but it is worth knowing what you will actually be charged on day one. Our planned plans are $30, $40, $200 a month, billed monthly, which is more per month than those yearly deals. Payments are not open on our site yet.
3. Conversation quality and character consistency
This is the part reviews struggle to measure and the part you will notice most. Good signs: she remembers what you said ten messages ago, keeps her own opinions instead of agreeing with everything, and sounds like a person rather than a customer-support bot. A large library of characters made by users often means quality varies a lot between characters. A small hand-written cast is more consistent but gives you less choice. The only reliable test is to chat for a while on the free tier.
4. Memory
Every app keeps recent messages in view. The difference is what happens to older ones. Some services keep a long-term profile of you; others summarize the conversation as it grows. Ask whether memory works across separate chats or only inside one. On our site each conversation keeps a running summary, so she remembers names and plans you mentioned earlier in that chat. We do not build a profile of you across characters.
5. Content rules for adults
If you want explicit roleplay, check that the service is adults-only and says so clearly, and read what it blocks. A responsible adult site still blocks anything involving minors, non-consent, incest, bestiality or real people, and every character should be a clearly fictional adult. If a site is vague about its rules, that is a red flag rather than a feature. Ours are in the Acceptable Use Policy.
6. Privacy
You will say personal things to an AI girlfriend. Look for: whether you can chat without an email, whether you can delete your chats, what appears on your card statement, and whether the company sells data. See is it safe? for how we handle each of these.
7. Extras: images, voice, video, apps
These are where the big platforms are clearly ahead of us. If photos on request or voice calls are the point for you, choose a service that offers them. We are text only, with no voice, no image generator and no app.
8. Who runs it
Check for a real contact address, terms, a refund policy and an operator name. Payment processors require these from adult sites, and their absence usually means you will have trouble cancelling later.

Where we are weaker, plainly
We would rather you pick the right service than pick us and leave. Free AI Girlfriend has ten characters, not hundreds. You can't build your own. There is no voice, no image generation, no video and no app. Our planned monthly prices are higher than the yearly-plan prices other services advertise. What we do offer is a fast way to start: open a profile on the girls page, tick the 18+ box and start texting, with no account.
A five-minute test for any AI girlfriend
- Start a chat and mention a specific detail: a name, a plan for the weekend, a food you hate.
- Talk about something else for ten or fifteen messages.
- Ask her about the detail. Does she remember it without being reminded?
- Disagree with her about something small. Does she push back, or fold instantly?
- Check how many free messages you have left and whether they come back tomorrow.
